Глаголы «лежать», «класть» и «врать»
Глаголы «лежать» и «класть» (lie и lay) путают даже носители языка. К тому же, есть еще и глагол «врать» (lie), который очень похож на «лежать», что только усугубляет ситуацию. Как же различить эти три глагола?
To lie — лежать
Глагол «lie» — непереходный, то есть, он обозначает лежание, нахождение в горизонтальном положении, которое происходит само по себе, а не производится над чем-то. Нельзя «лежать кого-то или что-то», можно только лежать самому, или же какой-то предмет может лежать самостоятельно.
Спрягается этот глагол так: lie, lay, lain, lying.
Isn’t it nice to lie in the sun? — Разве не приятно лежать на солнце?
I lay in bed — Я лежал в кровати.
The skeleton had lain like this for decades — Скелет пролежал так десятки лет.
The book was lying on the table — Книга лежала на столе.
To lay — класть
Этот глагол как раз переходный, то есть, обозначает действие, которое производится с кем-то или чем-то, не занимание, а придание горизонтального положения. Нельзя просто сказать «класть», нужно обязательно уточнить, ЧТО именно класть.
Вот как он спрягается: lay, laid, laid, laying.
I shall lay the carpet here — Я постелю ковер здесь.
We laid your coat on the sofa — Мы положили твое пальто на диван.
This bird has never laid any eggs — Эта птица еще ни разу не несла яиц.
They were laying tiles when I came — Когда я пришел, они укладывали черепицу.
To lie — врать
Этот глагол совершенно иной по смыслу, но его так часто путают с глаголом «лежать», что стоит упомянуть и его.
Он спрягается так: lie, lied, lied, lying.
Let’s lie to him! — Давайте ему соврем!
They lied to me — Они мне соврали.
They have never lied before — Они никогда не врали раньше.
They were just standing and lying in my face! — Просто стояли и врали мне в лицо!

Lay и lie: разница, правила и упражнения
Неправильные глаголы, в целом, приносят немало хлопот изучающим английский язык. Неправильные глаголы lay и lie не просто не являются исключением: наверное, нет ни одного человека, который не допустил ни единой ошибки при употреблении глаголов lie и lay. C подобными сложностями мы сталкиваемся только при изучении глаголов rise и raise.
Почему глаголы lay и lie вызывают столько сложностей? Этому есть 3 причины:
- Некоторые формы глаголов пишутся одинаково,
- У глагола lie есть 2 значения – лежать и лгать,
- Смысл глаголов lie (лежать) и lay (класть) немного схож.
Однако, давайте обо всем по-порядку.
Глагол lie — lay – lain (лежать)
Глагол lie (лежать) является неправильным. Три формы глагола lie:
Примеры использования Lie – lay – lain:
Emily continued to lie in the same position. – Эмили продолжала лежать в одной и той же позе.
She lay down and rested for a while. – Она легла и немного отдохнула.
John scrabbled away just before a stone hit the ground where he had lain. — Джон едва успел отползти, как на то место, где он лежал, упал камень.
Обратите внимание: при прибавлении окончания –ing мы имеем – lie – lying.
Molly is lying on the sofa – Молли лежит на диване.
Выражения с глаголом lie (лежать):
- lie in а bed – лежать в кровати
- lie down – прилечь
- lie ahead – быть впереди
- lie open – быть как на ладони
Глагол lie — lied – lied (лгать).
Глагол lie (лгать) абсолютно созвучен с глаголом lie (лежать), однако является правильным глаголом.
I never lie to my parents – Я никогда не лгу моим родителям.
They lied to all the world. – Они лгали всему свету.
Had he lied to her before? – Лгал ли он ей раньше?
Выражения с глаголом lie (лгать):
- lie on purpose – лгать намеренно
- lie to smb – лгать кому-либо
Глагол lay – laid – laid (класть / положить)
Глагол lay (класть) также является неправильным. Три формы глагола lay:
I usually lay the table – Я обычно накрываю на стол.
She laid her hands upon my head – Она положила руки мне на голову.
We have laid a gas pipeline on the floor of the Black Sea. – Мы проложили трубопроводную газовую систему по дну Чёрного моря.
Глагол lay требует после себя дополнение: Lay smb / smth (класть кого / что).
- Lay the table – накрыть на стол
- Lay eggs – нести яйца
- lay a bet on – держать пари
- lay a claim to – предъявлять права на
- lay a ghost – изгонять духа
- lay a tax – облагать налогом
- lay an embargo – накладывать эмбарго
- lay before the court – выступать в суде
Еще раз сравните глаголы:
lie (present) – lay (past) – lain (past participle)
Lie (present) – lied (past) – lied (past participle)
lay (present) – laid (past) – laid (past participle).
А теперь давайте выполним ряд упражнений и закрепим это правило.

Глаголы lie, lay, lie
Глаголы lie- лежать, lay — класть и lie- лгать схожи по написанию и представляют трудность для запоминания. Чтобы не запутаться в них, предлагаем небольшую запоминалку.
Мы лежим НА, следовательно глагол ЛЕЖАТЬ (на) в третьей форме на конце имеет букву n
to lie — lay — lain
Во второй форме Вы не ошибётесь, если посмотрите на третью. Та же гласная буква повторяется.
Продолжаем запоминать. Из оставшихся двух глаголов класть и лгать один правильный, другой неправильный. Запоминаем разницу таким образом: лгать нехорошо, неправильно, но глагол правильный.
To lie — lied — lied (просто добавляем -d)
Осталось разобраться с последним глаголом, и это глагол lay. Он неправильный, похож на say. Формы от say — said — said, значит от lay будут lay — laid — laid.
to lie — lay -lain — lying лежать
to lie — lied — lied — lying лгать
to lay — laid — laid — laying класть
В заключение запомним несколько устойчивых словосочетаний с этими глаголами:
lay the table — накрывать на стол
lay foundations — закладывать основы
lay eggs — откладывать яйца
lie in the sun — загорать
tell lies — говорить неправду
