Glen Charles Cook is an American writer of science fiction and contemporary fantasy, known for The Black Company and Garrett fantasy series. Cook was born on July 9, 1944 in New York City. Cook spent time in the United States Navy. Cook began to write in earnest while working for General Motors at an auto assembly plant.
Cook wrote The Black Company, a novel published by Tor Fantasy in May 1984. It began a fantasy series of the same name (or Chronicles of the Black Company) following an elite mercenary unit through several decades of its history. It has become something of a cult classic, especially among members of the military. When asked about the series’ popularity among soldiers, Cook replied: «The characters act like the guys actually behave. The characters are real soldiers. They’re not soldiers as imagined by people who’ve never been in the service. That’s why service guys like it». Cook is also known for his Garrett series, which tells the adventures of hardboiled detective Garrett.
Mr.Garrett is a famous character created by Glen Cook. Garrett is a freelance private investigator in the fantasy world full of elves, trolls, extraordinary powered magicians and strange creatures. Garrett is an ex-marine. He is described as handsome, tall, with red hair and blue eyes. He is in his early to middle 30-s and is physically fit. Garrett is a typical detective. He is brave, intelligent, strong and… very lazy. He avoids work as much as possible, trying to work just enough to make ends meet. Garrett solves the most mysterious cases with the help of his faithful companion — known as the Dead Man, which is a member of a very rare species called the Loghyr.
